The JBL PRX418S is a high‑power passive 18‑inch subwoofer in JBL’s PRX400 series.
“Passive” means it does not have its own built‑in amplifier; it needs an external power amp to drive it.
It’s designed to complement full‑range two‑way speakers in live sound systems, DJs, houses of worship, installations and similar applications, providing deep, high output low frequencies (bass) to enhance throw, impact, and fullness in sound.
The enclosure is front‑loaded, vented / bass‑reflex design with a large port (vent) for reduced distortion and better airflow, which improves bass clarity under high demand. The build quality is rugged — using durable materials (birch/poplar plywood), a tough DuraFlex™ finish, steel grille (16‑gauge) with an acoustically transparent cloth lining to protect the driver while keeping sound quality.
